Review of City Financial Records and Correspondence with Breedlove & Co.
05/08/2025
While reviewing previously posted bank records, we noticed a significant amount of funds—approaching the $100,000 mark—being paid to Breedlove & Co., the city's accounting firm. While this may be entirely routine, the amount was substantial enough to warrant further examination. To better understand the purpose and context of these payments, we submitted a Public Information Request (PIR) for all email correspondence between Breedlove & Co. and City of Simonton employees.
I want to take a moment to express sincere appreciation to Nanci Mohr, the City Secretary, for her commitment to transparency. She has honored our PIR requests over the past few weeks, ensuring that the requested information was provided in accordance with the law. Unfortunately, I learned that today was her final day with the city, as she left the offices unexpectedly. While I am not aware of the specific circumstances, we owe her a genuine thank-you for her dedication to open government.
Below, you will find the final documents she was able to deliver to us. One link provides a complete zipped folder of the records, and the other four links contain individual PDF files of the email exchanges as requested.
